| Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-9. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: predorsal scales 0-6; distinct body colouration comprising conspicuous irregular rows of rounded iridescent bluish spots (turned brown in preserved specimens) along the side above midline; fewer spots in juveniles and females; 3-5 irregular rows of iridescent bluish spots that do not overlap with the dark brown blotches along the midline; and 11.8% COI-based uncorrected genetic distances (Ref. 138974). | |||
