Family:  Ambassidae (Asiatic glassfishes)
Max. size:  7.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam; introduced in Japan.
Diagnosis:  A conspicuous black blotch at the tip of the spinous dorsal fin; a dark vertically elongated blotch behind the upper extremity of the gill opening (may be very weak or absent); the second anal spine not much enlarged.
Biology:  Inhabits medium to large-sized rivers and flooded fields of the middle Mekong (Ref. 12975); in the basin-wide tributary of the lower Mekong (Ref. 36667). Occurs in lowland swamps and rivers (Ref. 57235); in sluggish and still standing waters (Ref. 36686). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
