Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-10; Vertebrae: 27-27. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: dorsal rays VI + I,10; absence of elongate spines and all segmented rays unbranched; anal rays I,10, all segmented rays unbranched; pectoral rays 14-16 (mean 15); caudal fin about equal or longer than head; absence of pelvic frenum; absence of cephalic sensory canals and associated pores; total longitudinal scales 21-24 (mean 22.5), median row interrupted below first dorsal fin by scaleless gap; main mass of body scales extending forward from caudal-fin base to below dorsal-fin junction or anterior portion of second dorsal fin; colour in alcohol pale yellowish or tan without conspicuous markings, except faint pair of blackish stripes on basal half of first and second dorsal fins of both male and female, and black margin on anal fin of male; few small clusters of melanophores on dorsal surface of head and small brown spots on side of head; and four widely spaced, tiny brown spots or horizontally elongate streaks in mid-lateral row on side of body and faint remnants of curved dark markings on the upper and lower caudal-fin base (Ref. 138626). |
