Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 370 - 375 m
Distribution:  Antarctic: South Orkney Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 71-71; Anal soft rays: 54-54; Vertebrae: 76-76. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following characters: lowest total vertebral count 76; D 71; A 54; body fully scaled except for the predorsal area, but vertical fins completely scaleless; no oral valve, pseudobranchs and pyloric caeca; upper lip with a pronounced flange; periproct surrounded by peculiar tentacle-like processes; unusual bluish coloration with blackish head (Ref. 138650).
