| Diagnosis: | Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-17; Anal soft rays: 7-7; Vertebrae: 38-39. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: circumpeduncle scales; deeply plicate lower lips; males with cephalic breeding tubercles; absence of dark and light stripes laterally along the body; lower lip angle generally less than 120ยบ; males with cephalic breeding tubercles; embedded breast scales; interrupted supratemporal canal; unique mouth with cleft lower lip; and absence of a conspicuous black stripe on the lower lobe of the caudal fin (Ref. 138708). | |||
