| Diagnosis: | This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: presence of a postdorsal ridge; postdorsal ridge plates (11-16, modally 12 vs. 8-11, modally 9); absence of keels on dorsal and mid-dorsal series of plates; dorsal profile of the head rounded; premaxillary (47-73); unicuspid teeth; dentary (42-78); snout profile rounded, snout tip naked; single fenestra on the anterior portion of pelvic girdle; vertebrae (31 vs. 29); absence of a cluster of abdominal platelets between the pelvic fins; tip of pectoral-fin spine reaching the second third of dorsal-fin base when adpressed; absence of dark spots over dorsal and lateral surfaces of head, body and fins; posterior margin of lower lip fringed; and five infraorbitals (Ref. 138661). | |||
