| Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-6; Anal soft rays: 36-40. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: unique colouration of the head, consisting of the combination of an intensely pigmented square-shaped blotch on the supraoccipital and a semicircular dark blotch above each eye; caudal-fin pigmentation, consisting of a patch of scattered melanophores forming an inconspicuous vertical bar on the caudal-fin base, most visible in live or freshly preserved specimen; caudal peduncle 11.1-13.8% SL; distance between the insertion of the last dorsal-fin ray and adipose-fin origin 41.9-45.6% SL; anal-fin rays 36-40; and gill rakers 17-20 (Ref. 138873). | |||
