| Quote | Incertae sedis: Due to the uncertainty of its taxonomic placement based on morphological features, authors retain as incertae sedis pending further investigation. While it generally fits into the diagnosis of Plectranthias s.s., it deviates from these species by having partially or fully scaled maxilla and mandibles. These characters somewhat align ‘Pl.’ intermedius with Zalanthias, but it differs from Zalanthias substantially by having only peripheral cteni on body scales. ‘Plectranthias’ intermedius was originally described as a Xenanthias, but its general morphology does not conform with the diagnosis of this genus (Ref. 138265). |
