Diagnosed from congeners in Aegean and Black Sea basins by having the following characters: origin of anal fin about 1½ -2½ scales behind dorsal fin base; lateral line with 63-67 + 4 scales; anal fin with 13-15½ branched rays; 21-27 gill rakers (mode 25); ventral keel exposed for 8-12 scales in front of anus; head length 22-26% SL; predorsal length 55-58% SL; caudal peduncle length 18-21% SL, depth 2.0-2.5 times in length; and nuptial males with few, large tubercles (Ref. 59043). |
