This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: conspicuous longitudinal dark stripes across the body depth; branched dorsal-fin rays 9; predorsal spine 5.2-6.0; preanal spine 5.0-5.7; faint second humeral mark; predorsal spine 5.2-6.0 mm SL; preanal spine 5.0-5.7 mm SL; scales with few curved radii; scale rows between lateral line and midventral scale series 9-10; longitudinal scale rows between the lateral line and dorsal-fin origin 7-8 (Ref. 132463).
