Exostoma sawmteai differs markedly from the other species of the genus from Ganges-Brahmaputra basin in having the posterior end of the adipose fin adnate with (vs. separated by a distinct notch from) the dorsal procurrent caudal-fin rays; further differs from all congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: snout length 48-55 % HL; eye diameter 8-11 % HL; pectoral-pelvic distance 28.6-32.8 % SL; body depth at anus 11.5-14.1 % SL; length of adipose-fin base 30.7-37.2 % SL; caudal-peduncle length 18.4-20.3 % SL; caudal-peduncle depth 10 .1-11. 7 % SL; lunate caudal fin; and 38-39 total vertebrae (Ref. 103394). |
