Diagnosis

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: unbranched pelvic-fin ray reaching the anus; 7-9 branched pectoral-fin rays; distinct neuromast fields on the lower jaw absent; black stripe ending as a triangular spot on the caudal-fin base absent; vertical bars on the side of the body in preserved specimens present; 17½-20½ branched anal-fin rays; dark stripe along the side absent; body depth 26.5-34.1% SL; 7½-8½ branched dorsal-fin rays; and complete lateral line with 28-34 scales (Ref. 138908).
