This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: anterior and median portions of lower lip with distinctly coalesced, longitudinally elongated papillae; a series of platelets covering the pectoral girdle between insertions of pectoral-fin spines with unique pattern consisting of a continuous irregular line varying in size and spacing; absence of the maxillary barbel in the lateral margin of the lower lip; teeth in each premaxilla 60-82 and dentary 55-80; club-shaped pectoral-fin spine; depressed head, with head depth 38.5-45.2% HL; absence of the first dorsal-fin spinelet (132467). |
