Diagnosis

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: gold with brown or gray vertical bars; gold cheek, and gold throat and chest; black throat in males, gray to light-blue throat; presence of dark submarginal band in the first dorsal fin of both females; gold cheeks in males; pale yellow with a black submarginal band in the dorsal fin of females; dark-gray caudal fin rays which are hyaline to light brown in the latter two in females; band is wider and extends over the distal two-thirds of the dorsal fin; and presence of four gill rakers on the outer row of the epibranchial (Ref. 138879).
