Diagnosis

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: tip of maxillary barbel not reaching to posterior edge of preoperculum; absence of horn-like structure in forehead; absence or high reduction of eye; pectoral fin not significantly extending beyond base of pelvic fin; gill rakers 10; lateral-line scale 45-47; presence of degenerated body scales above and below lateral line; absence of black blotches on the body (Ref. 132457).
