Etymology: Neosilurus: Greek, neos = new + Greek, silouros = cat fish (Ref. 45335)manjandi: Name 'manjandi' from the 'Manjan di' language of the Ngarinyin people meaning 'sandstone', in reference to the habitat of the new species.

Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 49 - 57; Anal soft rays: 65 - 74; Vertebrae: 44 - 48. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: small plotosid with a moderately extended caudodorsal fin (originating just posterior to mid-point of body); small first dorsal fin; depressed head; hard dorsal and pectoral spines; first dorsal I,4-5, second dorsal 44-52; and pre-caudal vertebrae 8-9 and caudal vertebrae 35-39 (Ref. 138569).
