Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 5. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: LDPZ-3 being represented by a row of dark brown to black spots, decreasing in size posteriorly, their diameter usually greater or sometimes nearly equal to opercular odontode diameter, anterior-most spots sometimes longitudinally coalesced; dorsal surface of head between orbits slightly concave; relatively long interopercular patch of odontodes, longer than the largest horizontal length of the hyomandibular anterior outgrown; 14 ribs; postero-lateral process of the autopalatine postero-laterally directed, its length about two thirds or less of the autopalatine length; second hypobranchial short, about so long as the third hypobranchial; posterior process of the parurohyal long, about eight tenths of the distance between the anterior margin of the parurohyal and the anterior insertion of the posterior process; single S6 median pore; opercular odontodes 17-19; presence of an anterior section of the infraorbital canal; pointed mandibular teeth; and a relatively shorter autopalatine postero-lateral process, its length about two-fifths of autopalatine length (Ref. 137859).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: oval.
