Ecology
Freshwater; benthopelagic; non-migratory (Ref. 126106). Temperate; 10°C - 30°C (Ref. 12468); 36°N - 33°N
North America: found only in upper Red and Brazos River drainages in Oklahoma and Texas, USA.

Adults inhabit shallow, sandy pools and runs of headwaters, creeks, and small to medium rivers. Often found in extremely shallow and hot (to 37°C) water (Ref. 5723). They consume midge and other insect larvae (Ref. 79012). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
