This species possess the following characters: predorsal scutes 1; abdominal scutes are sharply keeled, prepelvic 14 + postpelvic 9 = 23; maxilla is relatively short, reaching to posterior border of preopercle; A 34 (iv,30); D 13; the uppermost pectoral-fin ray is not filamentous; teeth in jaws fine and conical, not canine-like; lower gill rakers 25 (Ref. 138904).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
Presumed marine, pelagic, coastal, but also estuarine, thus tolerating lowered salinities. More data needed (Ref. 189).
