臀棘: 0; 臀鳍软条: 9 - 12; 脊椎骨: 38 - 45. Diagnosis: tooth patches broad; 9-12 anal-fin rays; 38-41 vertebrae; 19-20 caudal-fin rays (ii-7-8-ii-iii); stout, cylindrical head; broad, square snout; body finely spotted (Ref. 44050).
颜色类似 M. microstoma ，而且 M. monsembeensis 相当均匀地有小的深色印记布满整个的身体与尾鳍; 没有明显的深色或灰白的横带或条纹。 在有一个方面有别于 M. microstoma 较宽的嘴，较少的脊椎骨 (vs.44-46) 与较少的角鳃骨鳃耙。 (vs.20-24) 有别于 M. monsembeensis 有较少的脊椎骨 (vs.47-48).(参考文献 34006)
