Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 7 - 8; Vertebrae: 31. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: 7-10 irregular dark-brown dashes on the flanks, becoming circular toward the caudal end, with spots covering 1-3 scales in transverse row; dark-brown longitudinal line along flank; males and juvenile females with dark midventral postanal line, extending to caudal peduncle; post-gonopodium blotch absent in flanks of males and juvenile females; bony style at gonopodial tip of adult males relatively short and strongly curved dorsally, bearing a V-shaped ventral structure, formed by two short bony projections at its subdistal end; bony style covered by a broad membrane; terminal filament of gonopodium absent; and snout pointed and long (18.3%-24.9% HL) (Ref. 138477).
