Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal soft rays: 5; Vertebrae: 35 - 38. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: the mouth shape and structure, an incomplete lateral line; 9-13 greyish narrow bars on flank; a longer dorsal adipose crest on caudal peduncle, length 19-28% SL; a very slightly distinct incision on upper lip; a slightly developed a pelvic auxiliary, fully attached body; absence of suborbital grove or flap in males; a deeper caudal peduncle, length 1.1-1.3; a longer dorsal-fin base, length 16-19% SL; a shorter distance between pelvic-fin origin and anal-fin origin, length 20-24% SL; a slightly emarginated or truncate caudal-fin; and the presence small black dots on upper lip (Ref. 138481).
