Anal soft rays: 180 - 196. This species, a member of the E. trilineata species-group, is distinguished by the following characters: anal-fin hyaline; absence of enlarged eye, 17.5-21.1% HL; caudal filament short, 26.4-41.3% LEA; terminal mouth; lateral line stripe restricted to last two thirds of body; pectoral-fin rays ii,11-13; A 180-196; scales rows above lateral line 12-15; premaxillary teeth 10-14; dentary teeth 15-21; endopterygoid teeth 8-10; dentary teeth increasing in size along dentigerous surface; basibranchial 1 unossified; precaudal vertebrae 14 (Ref. 138579).

This species is apparently restricted to perennial rivers: specimens collected in a lentic environment, with clear water, sandy substrate, and varying amounts of remnants of riparian vegetation typical of the Cerrado biome, and with palms of Mauritia flexuosa (Ref. 138579).
