Dorsal soft rays (total): 61; Anal soft rays: 57; Vertebrae: 68. This species is distinguished by the following characters: vertebrae 68; D 61, A 57, caudal-fin rays 6, pectoral-fin rays 1; absence of pyloric caeca; teeth multi-row; opercular lobe triangular; gill slit reaching to the level of upper pectoral ray; head compressed; body depth at occiput 17.5% SL, depth above anal-fin origin 10.3% SL; posterior part tapering strongly towards end; eye diameter slightly larger than snout length; distance from chin to anus slightly less than length from anus to analfin origin (74% and 95% HL). Colouration: dorsal side of head and body pale, underside of head; belly black, tail blackish; mouth and peritoneum inky black (Ref. 138648).
