Etymology: Rineloricaria: Greek, rhinos = nose + Latin, lorica, loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather; 1706 (Ref. 45335); harenae: Name 'harenae' from the Latin word meaning 'sand', in reference to the sandy substrate characteristic of the habitat of the new species.
