This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: five pairs of gill pouches; 3/2 multicusp teeth pattern [three cusps fused on the anterior (outer) sets and two cusps fused on the posterior (inner) sets of cusps]; two bilaterally symmetrical nasal-sinus papillae in the dorsal surface of the nasal sinus; anterior unicusps (8-9), posterior unicusps (8-10), total cusps (43-48); caudal pores (9-13); body pinkish brown without white head and dorsal band; margin of caudal finfold dark brown; prebranchial pores 23-36 (average 27.0); and total number of cusps 43-48 (average 44.8) (Ref. 138715).
