Etymology: Australoheros: From the Latin word 'australis' meaning southern, and the name Heros, after the nominotypic genus of the Heroini tribe.
Tribe; ricani: Name 'ricani' in honor of Oldrich Rican from University of South Bohemia, who first recognize Australoheros species richness, and made the pioneering analyses, discovering and highlighting the phylogeny and species richness of inland species of Australoheros.
