This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: presence of distal black strip in dorsal fin of adult males; scales on peduncle series 15-16; dorsal-fin origin on transversal plane through bases of 3rd-4th anal-fin rays in males; neuromasts on ventral opercular series 3; dark filaments in dorsal and anal fins 1; neuromasts on infraorbital series 16-17; light orange flank color; neuromasts on preopercular series 12-13; length dorsal-fin base 19.3-36.0%; ventral opercular neuromasts series 1; and by caudal-fin length 21.6-26.8% (Ref. 138871).
