Etymology: Paratrygon: Greek, para in the side of + Greek, trygon = a sting ray (Ref. 45335); raonii: Name 'raonii' in honor of Raoni Metuktire, an indigenous Kayapo leader, environmentalist and activist who has fought for decades to preserve the rio Xingu and its indigenous people, as well as the Amazon rainforest.
