Differs from Characidium xavante by a greater number of scalesaround the caudal peduncle (12 vs. 10), narrower interorbital region (interorbital distance 20.5-28.6 vs. 30.1-38.0% HL) and deeper caudal peduncle (caudal peduncle depth 46.2-57.8% vs. 35.4-44.9% HL).
