The presence of a pale, -shaped marking on the dorsal surface of the head is also unique to this species. The presence of brown submarginal stripes running along the entire length of the caudal fin lobes (vs. transverse brown bands near the tips in other congeners) is otherwise only shared with P. inornata (Ref. 84463).
