Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896); opercularis: Name from neuter Latin noun 'operculum' for cover, refers to the prominent black spot on the gill cover of this species (Ref. 75973).
