Etymology: javaensis: Name 'javaensis' from the type locality of the new species, west and central southern Java.

Dorsal spines (total): 6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 30 - 32; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 25. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: five vesicular mental barbels on the chin; 11 or 12 swim-bladder appendages, and the ventral margin of the sagitta head expanded into a distinct convexity (Ref. 138397).
