Etymology: Microctenopoma: Greek, mikros = small + Greek, kteis, ktenos = comb + Greek, poma = cover, operculum (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Wäinö Pekkola was a preparator at the Zoological Institute, University of Turku, Finland. He collected fishes from the White Nile in Sudan (1914), including the type of this species. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
