Etymology: Enteromius: Greek, enteron = intestine + Greek, myo, mys = muscle (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Alfred Stauch (1921–1993) was a French oceanographer and ichthyologist who was a technician at the Office de la Recherche Scientifique et Technique d’Outre-Mer. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Taxonomic Remarks
Barbus stauchi may be conspecific with B. rubrostigma, its description was based on preserved specimens and its color pattern in life has not been recorded; in its description of B. stauchi Ref. 83569 did not compare it with B. miolepis rubrostigma, which was erroneously reported having a serrated last simple ray by Ref. 83564 (Ref. 81639).

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 11. Diagnosis: mouth terminal; two pairs of well-developed barbels, posterior pair 1.25-1.75x eye diameter; lateral line complete; 23-26 scales in lateral line; 4.5 scales between lateral line and origin of dorsal fin; 12 scales around caudal peduncle; posterior margin of dorsal fin straight; last simple ray of dorsal fin flexible, not serrated; large dark stripe on sides; found in the Loémé River, Republic of Congo (Ref. 81639).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
