Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 27 - 35. Has 27-35 dorsal-fin rays; snout somewhat longer than the postorbital part of the head; 17-20 rings around the trunk and 28-34 around the tail; large dark spots above the lateral trunk ridge (not always distinct).
Body shape (shape guide): eel-like.
Usually associated with river stretches with slow current, among grasses, roots or shore vegetation (Ref. 27732). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 13.6 cm SL.
