This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: with a shallow notch between spinous and soft dorsal fins; caudal-fin emarginate, with a small notch at middle of posterior margin; D VIII,14 usually; anterior portion of tooth band on palatine is relatively narrow, with 4-6 rows of villiform teeth. Colouration: body pinkish red, with a broad deep red stripe, comb-shaped upper margin, on lateral sides; upper and lower margins of caudal fin are white when fresh becoming grey in preservation; operculum and anterior trunk with a series of small grey spots when preserved (Ref. 137547).

Found on the shelf and shelf edge, on rocky bottoms (Ref. 11230). Collected at a depth of about 100 m.
