Etymology: Luzonichthys: Taken from Luzon, an island in Philippines + greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); taeniatus: From the Greek word 'taenia' meaning ribbon, referring to the color pattern of orange and yellow stripes anterior on the body.

Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: compressed.
Collected from steep outer reef areas. Forms aggregations with individuals of L. waitei. Inhabits steep outer reefs in 20-40 m (Ref 90102).
