Etymology: Cancelloxus: Latin, cancellosus, -a, -um, derived from cancellum = grating, grille, netting (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Cyril J Burrell. According to Smith he “…has constantly provided valuable aid in my researches”. We have been unable to find any biographical detail. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Épines dorsales (Total) : 33 - 39; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 10 - 14; Épines anales: 2; Rayons mous anaux: 38 - 43. Silvery and semi translucent with 12 light brown saddles; whitish stripe on lateral line; brownish mottled lines on pinkish head; 2 white bars across pectoral base; other fins (except dorsal) hyaline (Ref. 5496).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Found in coarse gravel areas of the intertidal zone; may be found up to 20 m depth in warmer waters.
