背面の脊椎 (合計) : 2; 背鰭 (合計) : 39 - 40; 肛門の骨: 1 - 2; 臀鰭: 29 - 31. Resemble B. leurolepis but easily distinguished by a distinct dark (blue when fresh) blotch on the operculum, and a smaller number of lateral line scales. Attains about 15 cm SL.
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: circular.
Inhabits rocky shore areas.
