Belongs to the pogonognathus - group which differs from Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus and the other species of Hemirhamphodon in having 1 two distinct sizes of melanophores in the dorsal fin, large and small. Resembles species of the phaiosoma -group but differs sharply from H. pogonognathus in having a continuous band of pigment extending from the distal part of the fin to its base (Ref. 26761).
屬於 pogonognathus- 聚集那一個有別於 Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus 與 Hemirhamphodon 的另一個種在背鰭中有三黑色素細胞的明顯大小, 大而小的。 與 phaiosoma 的種相似 -群但是在有一個方面銳利地不同於 H. pogonognathus 把鰭的從末梢部部份延伸到它的基底的有顏色的連續條紋.(參考文獻 26761)
