Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335); schultzi: Named for Dr. L.P. Schultz, USNM.

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 12; Rayons mous anaux: 8. A member of the group of species with complete or nearly complete lateral line, 8 1/2 branched dorsal rays, 9+8 branched caudal rays and no sexual dimorphism. Its small eyes (2.4-3.4% SL, 13-18% HL, 2.5-3.0 times in interorbital width) and its peculiar color pattern consisting in 13-18 thin irregularly set bars distinguish it from any other species. Emarginate caudal fin (Ref. 39226).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Inhabits hill streams (Ref. 12041). Feeds on insect larvae (Ref. 39226).
