Etymology: Limia: Limia derived from the Latin 'limus' meaning mud, pertaining to the feeding habits of the fish, from Poey, 1854. Donald Taphorn, pers. comm. 22 Feb 2015.
Eponymy: Emmanuel Garnier was the Director of the Fisheries Service in Haiti. He was of great assistance to the author during his visit to Haiti (1951). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
