Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Occurs in swamps and creeks with moderate water flow and where the bottom is covered with vegetation or plant debris. Feeds on aquatic invertebrates, insect larvae and crustaceans. Relatively aggressive, it lives in small groups (Ref. 12225).
