Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Adults inhabit sand and gravel-bottomed pools of clear headwaters, creeks and small rivers, often near vegetation. Occasionally found in lakes (Ref. 5723). They feed on microcrustacea, aquatic insects and some algae (Ref. 10294).
