Diagnosed from congeners by having the following characters: blunt snout, rostral cap hidden by upper lip in ventral view; lateral line with 41-50 + 3 scales; body depth 4.4-5.6 times in SL; caudal peduncle depth 1.9-2.2 times in its length; 16-23 gill rakers; and usually 6-5 pharyngeal teeth (Ref. 59043).

Adults inhabit stretches with swift current. Can survive in still water but needs access to flowing waters to spawn. Spawning occurs on gravel to stone bottom (Ref. 59043).
