Etymology: Citharichthys: Latin, cithara = lire like instrument + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Julio Valdez was Professor at the Francisco de Miranda Experimental University. He co-wrote: Los peces del Golfo de Venezuela (1986). He was honoured as he: “…generously made available to us all the material used in the description of the species.” (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
