Distinguished by having the following characters: posterior nares with nasal barbels (shared with various Old-World catfish taxa); anus and urogenital openings widely separated (shared with a large subgroup of Bagridae); first lateral line ossicle with well-defined processes articulating with supracleithrum (shared with species of Olyra) (Ref. 55745).
Formerly wrongly attributed to the South-American fauna. This species clearly belongs to South Asia. It is possible that accidental mixing of specimens and or labels resulted in the assignment of this species to a Neotropical location (Ref. 55745).
