Etymology: Kronichthys: Because of Mr. Ricard Krone (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Sigismund Ernst Richard (Ricardo) Krone (1861–1917) was born in Dresden, Germany, but left there for Brazil (1884), settling in Iguape where he opened a pharmacy. [...] Herbert Kyffin Heyland (1849–1944) was a British civil engineer who worked in Brazil where he was involved in setting up a company (1906). He collected the holotype of this species and presented it to the BMNH. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
