Etymology: Hypostomus: Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Charles Wilson was an Indianapolis businessman, who not only helped finance Eigenmann’s trip to Brazil but went along with him and collected many specimens himself, including the holotype of this species. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
